Midland is fortunate to have a wide variety of religious choices for residents seeking a place to worship and find fellowship with members of the community. The city is home to many Christian denominations and a Jewish synagogue, in addition to houses of worship for followers of Hindu and Buddhism. This multifaceted community of faith not only meets the spiritual needs of Midland’s residents, but often their emotional and social needs as well. Recognizing that bonding and developing friendships with others is critical for emotional well being, Midland’s churches offer group ministries and socials that are tailored to coincide with member needs. Many churches also have active community outreach programs to assist the less fortunate. These efforts include benevolence ministries like food and clothing distribution to regions struck by natural disasters around the United States and assistance to countries around the globe.

Midland also has several outreach organizations that provide help for those in need. Breaking Bread Soup Kitchen has been helping struggling families for 23 years. Located in the heart of Midland, the organization offers free hot meals to an average of 100 hungry people each weeknight. Family Promise Interfaith Hospitality Network is a partnership of congregations providing services to families experiencing homelessness. Founded in 2011, the organization is currently supported by 18 churches, with 14 congregations acting as hosts to provide families with sleeping quarters and family-style sit-down dinners. Homeless families also have access to a Day Center. Church Under the Bridge is a ministry for those who are experiencing extreme poverty or homelessness. It is also the home church for people of all socioeconomic backgrounds who want to help the less fortunate. The ministry feeds an average of 75-100 people per week and distributes clothes, survival gear, food, water, hygiene kits, bikes and more.

Midland has several other faith-based organizations that demonstrate the compassion and generosity of the community. Organizations such as the Salvation Army, Midland Crisis Center, Jubilee Center, Helping Hands, Habitat for Humanity and many others are able to provide a variety of services becuase of the philanthropic nature of Midland’s citizens.
