Nestled deep in the heart of South Texas and known to be one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, Hidalgo County is the eighth most populous county in the State of Texas and home to close to 800,000 people.

The county is located along the border with Mexico (north of the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico) and its 1,588 square miles are rich in parks and nature centers perfect for birding, biking, and other outdoor activities. Attractions can be found year long thanks to our tropical like climate.

Hidalgo County was formed in 1852 and named for Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the priest who raised the call for Mexico's independence from Spanish rule. Abutting the Mexican border along the Gulf of Mexico, Hidalgo County is one of the fastest growing counties in the Untied States and the eighth most populous in the Sate of Texas.
