A steady stream of out-of-towners visits Rockdale for its annual events. These activities highlight the diversity of the city and keep visitors and residents entertained.
The Milam County Opry, held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, packs the city with country music lovers from across the state every month. The annual Country Christmas Ball grows in popularity every year and serves as a venue for western-swing music lovers throughout the country.
The four-day Rockdale Fair and Rodeo, held each October, brings thousands of visitors into Rockdale for rodeo, music, dance, arts and crafts, and a sampling of local food.
Each Wednesday and Saturday, Alcoa, the areas largest employer, gives free operations tours of the plant. People from all over the state take the two and a half-hour tour through the plants mining facilities and the 13,000 plus acres of land.
A favorite spot for shoppers is Arledge Antiques, a two-story warehouse packed with furniture, arts and crafts, knick-knacks, and odds and ends at reasonable prices. The Citywide garage sale each September is a boon for bargain hunters.
