Education

From here, it’s possible San Angelo is home to Angelo State University, named one of the “Best 377 Colleges” nationally for 2013 by the prestigious Princeton Review. Angelo State provides a stimulating educational environment and serves as a catalyst for the community’s cultural and economic enrichment.

As a state-supported institution and the second-largest campus in the Texas Tech University System, ASU emphasizes undergraduate and graduate education in arts, sciences, business, teacher education, agriculture, nursing, physical therapy and security studies, among others. The university’s almost 6,900 students represent 42 states, 25 countries and 219 of the state’s 254 counties.

The friendly and stimulating educational environment extends into the community with public offerings of dramatic and operatic theatrical performances, musical concerts, NCAA Division II athletic events and a variety of lectureships and symposia, featuring renowned scientists, acclaimed authors and Nobel laureates.

The carefully designed and maintained 268-acre campus, with facilities valued at more than $345 million, provides the perfect environment for teaching, learning, fellowship, entertainment and recreation. The Junell Center/Stephens Arena and the Houston Harte University Center offer superb facilities for university and community events. The Global Immersion Center is a major San Angelo attraction, offering planetarium shows and other educational programs.

Angelo State University also provides San Angelo and the region with one of its most enduring resources through the Robert G. and Nona K. Carr Scholarship Foundation that oversees a growing $100 million trust fund and provides approximately $4 million in academic scholarships annually to ASU students.
