Tyler County enjoys a diverse economic environment ranging from smaller independently owned shops to major industrial companies.

It is strategically located at the junction of three major highways and is less than a 100-mile drive to the major market of Houston. What’s more, the area is home to a well-educated, hardworking labor base, the availability of a number of prime commercial and industrial sites – including the 165-acre Tyler County Industrial Park – excellent incentives and supportive business organizations such as the Tyler County Chamber of Commerce - making this an extremely attractive place to do business.

The county’s proximity to a multitude of higher learning institutions, regional vocational schools and state-supported training programs has aided the local economy. As of May 2007, Tyler County’s unemployment rate estimate rested at 5.1 percent, a sharp decline from May 2006’s unemployment rate of 6.5 percent.

NAPCO Industries, owned locally by entrepreneur Lonnie Grissom, has several sawmills, chipping mills and wood yards primarily in Southeast Texas. NAPCO Industries employ approximately 145 employees. It sells fuel chips and pulp to one of the largest paper mills in the United States, Mead West Vaco.

Ameriforge Industries is a manufacturer of forged products, selling primarily to the energy, oil and gas production, transportation, aerospace and industrial markets. The local plant employs 26 employees with plans of another plant expansion.

Timberline Nursery, Inc. is a large wholesale nursery located in Hillister, Texas. With a state-of-the-art greenhouse facility covering 650, 000 square feet, Timberline provides a wide range of plants to customers across the United States. It employs approximately 50 people. The products are sold to K-mart, Wal-Mart and The Home Depot stores across the United States.

As a Chamber, we are very proud of the industry that we have in Tyler County and the people that it employs. Tyler County is a diamond in the rough for companies interested in expanding. We believe and have a vision for a brighter future in fuels, timber, energy and mechanized industry. We are 75 miles inland, have access to good highways and are conveniently located to one of the largest ports in the United States.
