Welcome from the Mayor of Chester

In 2008, the City of Chester will be 125 years old. Our city was named after Chester A. Arthur, who was a senator from New York at that time. Our hometown community is located on US-287, in the west end of Tyler County.

Chester ISD is proud of their high-quality schools. Enrollment this year is just over 200 students. The low teacher/student ratio makes for an excellent small-classroom learning environment for our students.

The Chester area is a tight-knit community, with five local churches working together for the benefit of its residents and spreading the uplifting Gospel of our Lord.

Chester is the home of Camp Ta-ku-la, a church retreat and campground. Across the road from the camp is a group foster home for children.

Downtown Chester boasts of a U.S. post office, a bank, a convenience store/gas station, a feed/hardware store, a restaurant, storage-buildings, computer repair store and heating/air conditioner shop.

The hunting in the area is very good. Approximately three miles east of Chester on US-287 is an R.V. park and a high fence hunting area. Come visit our area any time. You are always welcome!
