Waxahachie Location and Transportation

The county seat of Ellis County, Waxahachie is situated in the very heart of Texas — 25 minutes south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Waxahachie is located on I-35E, an integral portion of the north/south corridor of the Mexico-to-Canada freight route initiated by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1992. I-35E is also a vital transportation route from Oklahoma through Dallas, Waco, Austin, San Antonio and on to Mexico for commercial and recreational travel. This segment of the Mexico-to-Canada trade route favorably impacts and complements Waxahachie’s economy.

U.S. Highway 77 also feeds into Waxahachie north and south off I-35E, and is a major transportation route for the North Waxahachie Industrial Park.

U.S. Highway 287 runs through the center of Waxahachie, and connects our neighboring cities — Midlothian, Mansfield and Fort Worth to the west; Ennis and Corsicana to the east. U.S. Highway 287 also intersects with I-45 (which runs from Oklahoma to the Texas Gulf Coast), and then accesses neighboring Navarro County to the south and onward to the Texas Coast. U.S. Highway 360 runs south from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport to U.S. Highway 287.

With these major artery advantages, the Waxahachie area continues to gain momentum for commercial, business, tourist, commuter and shopping interests.

Numerous freight carriers provide parcel, freight and delivery service, and rail service through Waxahachie is provided by Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific Railroads.

Mid-Way Regional Airport, on U.S. Highway 287, provides air transport for Waxahachie, which is also within a short drive of Dallas/Fort Worth International (45 miles) and Dallas Love Field (35 miles).
