Waxahachie’s Park District, under the direction of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, takes pride in keeping the city’s numerous parks (17 inside the confines of the city) maintained and ever-ready for family pleasure and enjoyment.

Getzendaner Park: One of the oldest parks in the city, Getzendaner contains 55 acres of large pecan and oak trees, and has several playground areas and a jogging trail. It is also home to the historic Chautauqua Auditorium.

Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail: This beautiful four-mile nature trail winds along Waxahachie Creek through the heart of the city, stretching from Lions Park to Getzendaner Park. The trail provides benches, exercise stations and peaceful rest areas.

The Waxahachie Sports Complex: The complex features numerous lighted sports fields and concessions stands for youth and adult sporting events.

Paul Richards Field: Located between City Hall and the Waxahachie City Cemetery, the historic ballpark was the spring training home to the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox and Buffalo Bisons in the 1920s. Today, it is the home park of the Twisters, a Texas league collegiate baseball team.

Courthouse Park: The newest park in Waxahachie, Courthouse Park is located in the shadows of Waxahachie’s historic Ellis County Courthouse. The small "pocket park" is beautifully landscaped to complement the architecture and charm of the scenic Courthouse Square and Downtown Historic District. n
