Services for Seniors

Senior Housing

Weatherford has a number of affordable housing options for seniors. Garden homes, duplexes and apartments are currently available, as well as low-income housing resources.

Senior Activity Center

Senior Activity Center

The Senior Center is a home away from home for many seniors and gives new purpose and direction to those who spend time there. Located on Holland Lake Drive, the center is more than just a meeting place for Weatherford’s seniors. Many health and wellness services are available to those who visit. Mornings begin with chair exercise class, coffee and snacks and table games. Programs are presented, including speakers on many topics of interest to seniors such as legislative updates, nutrition, healthcare, social security benefits counseling and caregiver information. Senior transportation services allow seniors to continue to be a part of the community after they no longer drive. The calendar of events includes computer classes, arts and crafts, woodcarving, a book club, as well as entertainment like bingo, line dancing and live music.

Operated by the Parker County Committee on Aging, the Senior Center prepares more than 300 hot meals per day, serving a nutritious lunch to center participants, as well as home delivered meals for frail, home-bound residents throughout the entire county. More than 40 volunteers per day assist the staff in carrying out the mission of the agency.

Weatherford cherishes its senior citizens. It is this appreciation for our older generations that prompted the board of directors of the Parker County Committee on Aging to begin a capital campaign to build a larger center offering even more services for the growing senior population. The new center will be located on 10 lovely, wooded acres south of Interstate 20 with monies raised in the community and generous grants from several foundations. The new center is designed to be open and spacious both inside and outside. There will be plenty of windows for natural light, separate classroom settings for activities that require such space, a modern commercial kitchen for preparation, packaging and distribution of meals-on-wheels, as well as the daily lunch served to participants at the center. A health services center will offer an indoor walking track, safe, effective exercise equipment for older adults, as well as routine blood pressure and blood sugar testing. An expanded food pantry will provide assistance to seniors on fixed income.
