Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce

Location & Transportation

Chesterfield County’s proximity makes it a desirable location for business, cultural events, and residential living. Located south of the city of Richmond along Interstate 95 and State Route 288, the 446-square mile county is hemmed in by the James River at its northern and southeastern borders.

A crossroads for major interstate and U.S. highways, the Chesterfield area has superb highway connections covering an area from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean and from Maine to Florida.

Within the county’s boundaries, the beltway system includes State Route 288 and I-95. As a result, I-195, I-295, I-85, and I-64 are all easily accessible from the county’s main business corridors.

Not satisfied simply with a prime location, Chesterfield’s planners set out to make the road system a model of efficiency and convenience. The interstate and beltway system can handle today’s traffic flow without the gridlock experienced in other metro areas. Chesterfield’s road system makes commuting easier, with an average commute of less than half an hour.

Rail services, including CSX and Amtrak, are readily accessible no matter where you live or work in the county. Shipping cargo overseas is no problem. In addition to deepwater industrial sites and the Port of Richmond, Norfolk International Terminal and the Port of Hampton Roads are within reach by rail or truck.

Also easily accessible is the Richmond International Airport. The full-service airport is located just 15 to 30 minutes from most areas in Chesterfield County.

The Chesterfield County Airport is a reliever airport for Richmond Inter-national Airport. Numerous general aviation and corporate aircraft are based out of Chesterfield. The airport is adjacent to Chesterfield Industrial Park with separate taxiways for industrial users. Charter services, FAA-approved repair services, flight training, and aircraft storage are available at the 5,500-foot, paved and lighted runway. The airport is also headquarters for the Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and the State Police Department of Aviation.
