Welcome to Farmville

As the Executive Director of the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce, I would like to extend the warmest welcome to anyone reading this community guide. We are excited to showcase our lovely community, our fantastic Chamber members, and all that we have to offer. The Chamber’s mission is to strive to improve the lives of those living and doing business in our community, and we hope this magazine will showcase the abundance of opportunities we have here in our area.

We have seen some nice growth over the past few years, and downtown Farmville is the home of some unique boutique shopping, delicious dining and evening entertainment. It is also the home to several events such as the Heart of Virginia Festival and the Virginia Children’s Book Festival, which is the largest book festival for children on the east coast! Farmville still has its small town charm with our Christmas tree lighting and parade, weekend family outdoor movie nights in the summer, and live music on the plaza. We are also very proud of our distinction of being the country’s first two-college town, and our surrounding counties all benefit from the activities and culture that collegiate life brings.

We love that we have several state parks right here in our community so everyone in the neighboring counties – and visitors – can enjoy them. Our area is rich in history as we played a vital role in the end of the Civil War and the start of the civil rights movement. Be sure to visit the RR Moton Museum where everyone can learn about how our community helped shape education as we know it today.

Our Chamber is thriving and we recently celebrated our 70th anniversary. We are continually looking for ways to address the needs of our members and community. Please check out our calendar of events on our website or stop by our office. This publication only begins to address all the wonderful highlights Prince Edward, Cumberland, and the surrounding areas offer.
