The City’s Recreation and Parks Department oversees more than 20 park sites, featuring an array of amenities such as athletic fields and courts, playground equipment, picnic shelters and open space. In addition to the parks are several trails for walking and biking and recreational facilities such as the Hopewell Community Center, which is equipped with an indoor pool, racquetball courts, a gymnasium, an exercise room and more.

Golf enthusiasts take pleasure in the offerings of Hopewell’s 18-hole Jordan Point Country Club, while outdoor lovers regularly visit the Presquile National Wildlife Refuge, a 1,329-acre island located in the James River. Visitors to the refuge participate in a variety of environmental education programs and opportunities for hunting, fishing and wildlife observation and photography.
