Lexington Culture & Recreation

There are endless opportunities for fun for residents of Rockbridge County. More than 100 historically significant attractions are in the area—including the Natural Bridge, Lee Chapel, the Stonewall Jackson House, the George C. Marshall Museum, the V.M.I. Museum and the Cyrus McCormick Farm. Local
colleges host lectures, concerts and athletic events that are open to the public—many are free. Membership organizations (such as the Historic Lexington Foundation, the Rockbridge Arts Guild and the Rockbridge Area Conservation Council) sponsor events open to the public. Fine arts performances by the Rockbridge Choral Society and Ballet and Modern Dance Ensemble enable residents to enjoy first-rate arts performances close to home. Each summer, Theater at Lime Kiln offers outdoor theater, music and family events.

Great outdoor attractions include the Blue Ridge Parkway, Goshen Pass, Lake Robertson and the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

The Rockbridge Regional Library has its headquarters in Lexington, and operates branches in Buena Vista, Glasgow and Goshen. The public, college and law school libraries cooperate and cross-catalogue their collections.
