graphicAshland schools are committed to their students, providing them both curriculum and extracurricular options that enhance each student's learning experience.

The Ashland school district includes both city and rural areas that cover about 433 square miles. Presently, about 2,200 students attend the Lake Superior Primary and Intermediate Schools, Ashland Middle School, and Ashland High School.

Additional courses include advanced placement, media center and special education. There are private schools as well. The largest is Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School.orthland College is situated in Ashland. Students worldwide attend the school. It is a four-year liberal arts college founded in the great northwoods in 1892. Since 1971, it has linked the traditions of liberal arts education with an environmental emphasis.

The curriculum is both relevant and flexible and offers majors such as biology, business, English or teaching, as well as interdisciplinary majors in environmental studies, outdoor education, and natural resources. Three new majors added are environmental science, veterinary life sciences and water science.

The Chronicles named Northland as one of the top three environmental campuses for higher education, and it places in the top 200 science programs, according to the Peterson's Guide.orthland College is home to the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute, which offers environmental outreach programs. A sample of programs includes LoonWatch, the Timber Wolf Alliance, and the Lake Superior Binational Forum.

The Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College or WITC, is a vocational-technical school in Ashland that is home to a new technology center. It offers associate degrees and technical diplomas for new students or for those who are employed and wish to advance their careers. Customized training is available.

In addition, Ashland is an outreach station for the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Agriculture and Sciences. Early work here laid groundwork for agriculture on the cut-over timber lands of northern Wisconsin. Recently, the station has been putting more emphasis on natural resource management.
