Community Introduction

Nestled in beautiful ancient bluffs, the Baraboo area is exciting to explore! Located next to the natural beauty of Devil’s Lake State Park, Baraboo is home to the International Crane Foundation—the world center for the study and preservation of the world’s most revered and graceful birds.

Baraboo is also home to Circus World, located at the original winter quarters (1884-1918) of the Ringling Brothers Circus. Circus World is owned by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin and offers live circus performances throughout the summer and museum exhibits year round. Recently opened in Baraboo is the International Clown Hall of Fame and Research Center – a natural fit for “Circus Town.” The center is a repository for the history of clowns the world over.

History is alive in the Baraboo area, from the train rides at Mid-Continent Railway Museum to the wide variety of art galleries, gift shops and specialty stores located in the historic buildings of the downtown district surrounding the county’s courthouse square.

Baraboo Introduction

More recent additions to the Baraboo area include the Wisconsin Big Cat Rescue & Educational Center, which provides a safe and comfortable home for abused, neglected and unwanted big cats, and the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center, where the legacy of conservation leader Aldo Leopold is celebrated and studied.

From the many attractions to our historical sites, the Baraboo area offers small-town hospitality to match our variety of year-round attractions and recreational activities. This is our area’s uniqueness—we’ve combined wonderful places to stay, eat and shop with the beautiful scenery and natural wonders of the area and some memory-generating activities that guarantee a visit you won’t forget.

No matter what your age or interests, you’ll find an exceptional experience in Baraboo!
