Education in Cottage Grove

The Monona Grove School District (MGSD) has a rich tradition of excellence, continuous improvement and high standards. The MGSD mission is to “increase learning for all students while cultivating social responsibility and a desire for learning.”

With over 3,300 students enrolled in the 2015-2016 school year, the Monona Grove School District is proud of the opportunities it offers the community’s students. From its music program that offers strings instruction to students as young as fourth-graders, to its college and career preparation programming, the school district’s rich and robust curriculum benefits students and families in a small city environment, yet is close to one of the nation’s major universities, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the state capital.

Monona Grove High School currently serves approximately 1,000 students and offers a rich curriculum that includes 14 Advanced Placement courses, two foreign languages, choir, band, orchestra and pre-engineering courses. An alternating block schedule provides students the opportunity to enroll in up to eight classes that meet every other day. Many students also participate in one or more of the 22 different athletic programs, show choir, drama, forensics, DECA and many other co-curricular activities. Monona Grove High School has a strong tradition of students challenging themselves in the classroom, on the athletic field and on stage. As a result, students often associate themselves with multiple groups of peers helping to create an environment where differences are embraced.

As communities with rich heritages of supporting education, we are proud of the high quality educators, staff and leaders who serve the families of the Monona Grove School District. The district employs over 400 staff members, comprised of teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, school nutrition team members and administrators. Staff members in all the school district’s operations are dedicated and committed to the care of our students, facilities and community. The district takes pride in its highly qualified and knowledgeable staff members. Currently, more than half the teachers hold a master’s degree or Ph.D. In addition, many staff members lead after school co-curricular and athletic activities, which provide students with opportunities for growth outside the school day.
