Education

The people of Fond du Lac hold a strong belief in the value of education and they support a public school system that pursues excellence in all aspects.

The Fond du Lac School District proudly serves approximately 7,400 students in 15 well-maintained facilities. The District consists of nine elementary schools, three middle schools and Fond du Lac High School seamlessly working together to ensure students graduate college- and career-ready.

The District’s charter schools, in partnership with Mercury Marine, consist of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Academy for Grades 3-5 and the STEM Institute for Grades 6-9. The STEM Institute will be expanding into Grades 10-12 one grade per year. Elementary schools feature blocks of time for literacy and math instruction in addition to a rotational encore package (i.e. music, physical education, art and media/technology) to nurture the whole child.

Middle schools feature block scheduling in core content areas and a planned exploratory program to ensure students experience a wide range of opportunities as young adults.

Fond du Lac High School provides over 130 different academic and career-oriented courses, a full suite of world languages, robust music and fine arts offerings and a full slate of athletic opportunities. Grades 9-12 are provided with Google Chromebooks for 1-1 computing to enhance the student learning experience.

Additional learning options include integrated three-year-old programming, four-year-old kindergarten, Fondy Central which provides an alternative high school experience, and the virtual learning program which is available for students in Grades 6-12.

At all levels of the District, daily intervention and enrichment time is provided to tailor additional individualized instruction to each student.

The School District of North Fond du Lac is comprised of the Early Learning Center (which houses a privately owned childcare facility), Head Start, Early Childhood, four and five-year-old kindergarten programs; the Friendship Learning Center (grades 1-5), Bessie Allen Middle School (grades 6-8) Horace Mann High School (grades 9-12), as well as an Alternative Learning Center for high school students. Families enjoy the convenience of small town living with big time education opportunities for all children.

Dedicated to attracting and retaining a world-class staff to serve all children, no matter where each is on his or her learning journey, the highly qualified and talented educators serve 1,200+ students. The District dedicates its resources to provide small class sizes, state-of-the-art technology support (school provided 1-1 computer technology grades 4-12) and many opportunities to become involved in school activities and athletics. Outstanding programs, such as vocal and instrumental music, art, business education and technical education, serve to enhance a strong core of academic courses in the pre-K-12th grade curriculum.

The School District of North Fond du Lac, in cooperation with the community, is committed to providing an outstanding educational program in a safe and nurturing environment built upon mutual trust and respect, and designed so all individuals become lifelong learners.

Two excellent parochial school systems offer a religious-based alternative to public education. Four Lutheran K-8 schools and Winnebago Lutheran Academy provide a Lutheran-based education for the Fond du Lac County region and beyond. Arts, literature, science and athletics round out the curriculum for this education system.

St. Mary’s Springs Academy is the pre-K through 12th grade unified Catholic educational system in Fond du Lac. SMSA offers a challenging academic program with excellent faculty and a safe environment. Rooted in Christ’s teaching, SMSA develops the whole child – body, mind and soul – to meet global challenges and become the leaders of tomorrow. In the fall of 2016, SMSA opened the doors to its new consolidated PreK-12 campus, after a successful $26.5 million, multi-year capital campaign. The new school features state-of-the-art technology in every classroom, two outdoor playground spaces, new gymnasium, high school student lounge, fine arts wings, STEM lab, and a stunning new chapel at the heart of the campus. SMSA is committed to serving Fond du Lac for another 100 years.

Fond du Lac Christian School is a private, non-denominational, traditional classroom Christian school for grades K-12. This system provides excellent education with a biblical foundation. This new educational system has experienced tremendous growth since its inception in 1995.

The Fond du Lac area is also blessed with excellent schools in surrounding communities. The Oakfield School District offers the great advantage of small size and personal attention. Staff works together to meet the academic, social, emotional, behavioral and physical needs of each student.

The School District is a small rural district located just seven miles south of Fond du Lac. Both the Elementary and Junior and Senior High have a “family-like” approach in which every child receives personal attention, high-quality education, numerous co-curricular opportunities, and an academic culture where students, staff, parents and community value high achievement. Every teacher knows his or her students as individuals and each student gets to know every other student.
