Parks and Recreation

If you’re looking for some outdoor fun, you have certainly come to the right place. Jefferson maintains eight parks throughout the city and has plans to develop more in the coming years. The park areas include several acres of open space, playground and picnic areas, softball and baseball diamonds, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, a skating rink, a skateboard park and a Family Aquatic Center with swimming pool and water slide. In the summer, the pavilion at Rotary Park is used for concert and movie events. The pavilion is also available for rent for weddings, reunions and other events.

The Glacial Drumlin State Trail is a favorite among bikers, hikers and joggers, and even snowmobilers and skiers in the winter months. The trail was developed in 1986 and spans 52 miles between Cottage Grove and Waukesha.

Fishermen and anglers

Golfers can enjoy a great 13-hole golf course or practice on the driving range at Kemmeter’s. Bowlers can perfect their game at the local 12-lane bowling alley. The Jefferson Sportsmen’s Club offers trap shooting, and movie lovers can visit Jefferson’s outdoor movie theater, one of few left in the country.

Fishermen and anglers come from all over to fish at the dam across the Rock River. The Crawfish and Rock Rivers both offer boating, canoeing and fishing, and the Rock River Dam has one of only a few constructed fish ladders in the state. The Dam is an excellent place to fish or to view the fish as they make their way up the ladder and over the dam.

Jefferson’s four-legged friends need some fresh air and fun too, and they will find plenty of it at the Jefferson County Dog Park. The park consists of nearly 60 acres of exercise areas, wooded trails, play equipment and fenced-in open spaces.
