Chamber Welcome

Mauston combines the friendly small-town charm of scenic Wisconsin with the progressive, on-the-move attitude of a much larger city and a strategic location ideally suited for commerce and tourism.

Established as a sawmill settlement and incorporated in 1887, the City of Mauston (population 4,447) is situated exactly halfway between Minneapolis and Chicago on Interstate 90/94 and just a short drive north of the state capital, Madison.

The hub of Juneau County, Greater Mauston is naturally connected to the outdoors with woods, lakes and rivers. The Lemonweir River flows through our revitalized downtown and a newly created river walk that has quickly become the community’s focal point for commerce and leisure. The Wisconsin River, Petenwell Lake and Castle Rock Lake – Wisconsin’s second and fourth largest lakes – are just minutes away (see Tourism section for details).

While preserving our heritage with places such as the Boorman House Historical Museum and historic buildings such as the Juneau County Courthouse and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the city has adopted a modern approach to economic development, new housing/residential areas, transportation and community facilities such as our great schools, senior housing and many parks. We are committed to controlled, sustainable growth that reflects a respect for the importance of open space and natural beauty.

The result is a lifestyle that puts the great in Greater Mauston.
