Shopping and Dining

Whatever your shopping delight, Portage has the perfect blend of small shops mixed with national retail chains to serve your needs. Find the perfect piece of jewelry, antique, clothing or craft to accentuate your home or fashion. Whether you have a detailed shopping list or just want to pass the time window shopping, Portage is the place to be.

Popular with locals and tourists alike, the downtown Farmers Market draws shoppers in every Thursday afternoon from May through October. Located under the shade at Commerce Plaza, the market flows with locally homegrown produce, fresh flowers and plants, baked goods and quality handcrafted items.

Dining options are bountiful in Portage and extend from small cafes, bar and grills, and supper clubs to nationally known franchises. Relax and spend an evening with friends enjoying favorite beverages paired with a famous Wisconsin Friday night fish fry or Saturday night Prime Rib. Take a break from the attractions and recreation we offer to sample our local restaurants’ delicious daily specials. Take in a movie and relive the experience with friends in the theater lounge afterward or dine on the deck under an umbrella looking over beautiful Swan Lake.

Whether shopping or dining, Portage Green Gift Certificates come in handy when you are selecting where to go and what to do. The certificates are available at the Portage Area Chamber of Commerce office and make a great gift. Purchase them in $5, $10, and $25 increments and use them just like cash, as they are redeemable at more than 50 Chamber member businesses. Call the Chamber office ahead of time and the staff will have them ready for pickup.
