Healthcare

The Richland County area is brimming with excellent health and wellness resources. From dentists, optometrists and family practice physicians to senior services, massage therapists and fitness and recreation centers, residents are afforded all the healthcare resources needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Richland Hospital Complex
Richland Hospital, an acute-care Critical Access hospital, supplies a comprehensive range of services and is in the midst of the second phase of its three-phase Inpatient Renovation Project. Included in the construction are updates to the Med/Surg Unit, Special Care Unit and Birth Center, as well as new access to the rooftop Helipad and second-floor additions of hospital administrative offices and sleep study areas.

In 1996, Richland Hospital and Richland Medical Center announced plans for the establishment of a joint campus in Richland Center. The medical center employs 25 healthcare providers and welcomes numerous specialists traveling from other area hospitals who provide high-quality care in varying fields.

Also on-site in the Richland Medical Center is the Richland Community Free Clinic, a volunteer-operated and supported organization offering a number of beneficial services to uninsured and underinsured residents of the region. The clinic is open to walk-ins between 8 a.m. and Noon every Tuesday.

Massage
The benefits of therapeutic massage and bodywork are numerous, and include improved circulation, relaxation and stress reduction, enhanced flexibility, pain relief, improved posture and a strengthened immune system, among other merits. Several local massage therapists and healing practitioners with varying specialties have come together to establish the Richland Area Massage Therapy Association (RAMTA). The RAMTA Web site offers detailed profiles of members, information about massage therapy and bodywork, as well as upcoming events. If you’re in need of massage services, refer to www.ramta.org.

Senior Lifestyles
From independent and assisted living to nursing and memory care, Richland County is bursting with excellent senior living options and services.

Several senior apartment complexes are located within Richland Center. Independent retirement living is available at the NHS of Richland County-operated Park Hotel Senior Apartments and Ridgeview Commons, while assisted living apartments and memory care are provided at the modern Our House Senior Living complex.

The Schmidtt Woodland Hills Retirement Community for active seniors offers a full continuum of care and comprehensive on-site therapy services. Elderly residents also take advantage of high quality independent retirement and assisted living accommodations and services at the Harvest Guest Home, a community-based residential facility offering a home-like environment. More intensive care is available through the Pine Valley Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, a 104-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility providing short- and long-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation care, as well as respite services, dementia care, adult day care, social services, pastoral care and on-site therapy, dental, radiology and podiatry services.

In addition to comfortable accommodations and in-room amenities available at these locations, residents generally have access to community spaces, on-site beauty/barber salons, dining options, emergency response systems and a year-round calendar of events and activities.

Seniors looking for information regarding housing, transportation, nutrition, public programs and other related resources utilize such organizations as Richland County’s Health, Aging and Disability Resource Center and the nonprofit Independent Living Resources. The latter is a nonprofit, 13-county regional resource operating an outreach facility in Richland Center.
