History of Oak Creek and Franklin

The two communities of Oak Creek and Franklin both had their beginnings in the 1830s when immigrants primarily from Europe settled in this heavily forested area with its rocky soil, plentiful wildlife, numerous streams, wetlands and Lake Michigan on the eastern boundary.

Both Oak Creek and Franklin now boast of industrial parks and a diverse business base of industry, services and many solid residential communities.

Oak Creek and Franklin were both incorporated as cities in the mid-1950s. In the following years, the population of each city has grown to more than 35,000 and continue to be among the fastest growing cities in the state of Wisconsin.
