contentsSussex WI Chamberads

The Sussex WI area’s community calendar is filled with family-friendly events and gatherings which draw crowds from both near and far.

Say goodbye to those cold winter days and welcome the sunny spring season at Spring Fest. Every two years, the Sussex Area Chamber of Commerce, Hamilton School District and a handful of local organizations and businesses bring the community together to enjoy exhibition booths, entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities and more. Spring Fest 2010, held in March, was a success. Stay tuned for Spring Fest 2012!

The Waukesha County Fair hails as the oldest county fair in the state and by far the largest event happening in the county. Held at the Waukesha Exposition Center every July, the five-day fair is a celebration of the region’s strong rural heritage, featuring livestock shows, farm displays and a petting zoo, coupled with food, arts and crafts, carnival attractions and plenty of live musical entertainment.

In September, the Halquist Stone Company opens its Town of Lisbon quarry to the public during Dozer Days. The event welcomes well over 20,000 guests of all ages to explore and operate a variety of construction and military equipment, tour the quarry and peruse through an assortment of educational displays. Proceeds benefit the Hamilton Education Foundation.

Another one of the many much-anticipated events in the area is the annual Sussex Chili Cook-off. The October chili competition features more than 50 entrants ready to serve up their finest chili concoctions. Hundreds of people attend the Chili Cook-off, eager to get a taste of the homemade chili recipes. The event is hosted by the Sussex Lions Club and benefits the Sussex-area Outreach Services (SOS) organization.

In addition to the annual Sussex Chili Cook-off, the Sussex Lions Club holds the annual Piston & Rod Show in August, which displays hundreds of cars and offers delicious grilled grub, and the annual Lions Daze. Held in July, Lions Daze is a three- day event jam packed with entertainment and family fun. Among the attractions are a parade, fireworks, carnival, live music, athletic competitions, food booths, Bingo, a tractor pull, road rally and much more.

The community events listing doesn’t stop there, as local organizations regularly host a range of fundraisers, golf outings, business-to-business gatherings and other events, which benefit the local community and beyond.
