Education

The Mequon-Thiensville School District has exceptional academic standards and attains outstanding results, consistently ranking among the finest public school districts in the state. The District supports and challenges the approximately 3,500 students it serves to reach their full potential. The M-T School District’s mission is to maximize the academic achievement and personal growth of all students so they have the skills necessary to meet the needs of a changing global environment. Driven by the District’s mission and comprehensive strategic plan, the K-12 curriculum is aligned
to prepare all students for college and career readiness. Nearly 90 percent of graduates enroll in post-secondary education immediately after high school.

A rigorous core curriculum is offered, along with comprehensive educational programming that includes an extensive variety of extracurricular offerings. This combination engages students in their learning and affords them great success. Students are given the opportunity to engage in numerous clubs and organizations, including theatre, visual arts, band, orchestra and vocal groups. In addition, Homestead High School offers every Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) sanctioned sport to its students.

At the elementary school level, the curriculum is rich in literacy, as the early years provide a foundation for learning that is critical for each student’s success in reading. Reading needs of all students are met through high quality whole group and tailored
small group instruction, as well as one-on-one support. Students in middle school embark on college preparatory curriculum and continue their education in robust learning communities where they are provided world-class learning opportunities that are both rigorous and relevant. At the nationally recognized Homestead High School, students may choose from an extensive array of courses, including college credit-earning Advanced Placement courses and honors courses. Homestead focuses on preparing students for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

The Mequon-Thiensville community also offers impressive private educational opportunities. Parents wishing to enroll their children in private schools may choose from the University School of Milwaukee, Lumen Christi Catholic School or Calvary Lutheran School.

The University School of Milwaukee provides college preparatory education to students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school has been nationally recognized as one of the top independent schools in the country. Lumen Christi Catholic School provides quality Catholic faith-based education to students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Calvary Lutheran School is an accredited K- 8 elementary school that offers an education interwoven with Christian lessons.

Students looking to stay close to home for higher education will find excellent opportunities at Milwaukee Area Technical College or Concordia University Wisconsin located right in Mequon. Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is an important part of the north suburban community. The Mequon Campus is located in a scenic yet convenient area for students. Since many MATC students fit in college around their jobs and family responsibilities, a number of accelerated associate degree programs, in which students can attend class one evening each week, year-round are offered. Students seeking technical diplomas and associate degrees can graduate in one to two years; those working toward a certificate can finish in as few as four months. Many students start their bachelor’s degrees through MATC’s Liberal Arts and Sciences programs. They take classes for two years at MATC, and then transfer their credits to four-year colleges and universities.
