Business and Technology

Thousands of businesses from such industries as medical, high-tech research, manufacturing, retail, and professional and personal services have chosen to establish operations and open shop in Wauwatosa. The strong local economy is led by a unique blend of small and large corporations, with a number of small, family owned businesses in the midst of large national and international corporate headquarters.

Wauwatosa hosts several established and growing business districts in town, which house a unique mix of commercial, retail, office and industrial businesses. Among these business-oriented neighborhoods are the 16-block East Town along North Avenue, the Northwest Corridor, Tosa Village and major corridors along Bluemound Road, North Mayfair Road and West North Avenue. But perhaps the most significant of Wauwatosa’s business neighborhoods is the Milwaukee County Grounds, home to the largest concentration of medical and research institutions in southeastern Wisconsin.

research park

This 1,100-acre natural expanse is home to the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus and the adjacent 175-acre Milwaukee County Research Park (MCRP), which houses a multitude of high-tech based companies.

The research park is ideally located within the local Foreign Trade Zone and is within convenient proximity to freeways I-94 and U.S. 45. Other major advantages to businesses within the MCRP include access to an advanced fiber optic-based telecommunications infrastructure, a high bandwidth Internet point-of-presence (POP), the resources of four affiliate universities and the Milwaukee Area Technical College and the presence of the Technology Innovation Center (TIC) – the park’s self-supporting high-tech business incubator. The center stretches over 137,000 square feet, making it one of the largest incubators in the country. Currently, more than 55 companies have made a home in the incubator, the majority representing information technology companies and medical and biotechnology businesses.

The economy of Wauwatosa continues to thrive with key areas such as these, along with features including its enviable location in the Milwaukee Metro area, regional tourist destinations like the Milwaukee County Zoo and a supportive business environment led by the Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce and the city of Wauwatosa. There has never been a better time to look into the advantages of doing business in Wauwatosa.
