Location and Transportation

Wauwatosa is strategically located within southeastern Wisconsin, just four miles west of downtown Milwaukee. This position in metro Milwaukee is ideal for businesses and residents alike, who have easy access to the area’s abundant suburban and big-city resources. From lucrative business markets and nationally-recognized healthcare facilities to fine higher learning institutions and a long list of entertainment, cultural and recreational avenues, Wauwatosa is truly in the heart of it all.

A well-maintained infrastructure provides efficient ground travel for drivers. A network of local thoroughfares makes getting around town effortless, while regional travel is afforded through major routes including U.S. Route 45 and Interstates 94 and 43. Commuters also utilize the services of the cost-effective Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS), which operates several convenient bus routes in the city. Through MCTS, riders are linked with employment sites, area colleges and universities, hospitals, Mayfair Shopping Center and many other destinations.

Amtrak’s intercity commuter rail service is provided in nearby Milwaukee. The Hiawatha route operates 14 trains daily between Milwaukee and Chicago, making stops at both General Mitchell International Airport and the Intermodal Station at 433 W. St. Paul Avenue. The latter station is also served by the Empire Builder line, which connects the Midwest with the scenic American West. In addition to commuter options, Milwaukee provides a range of transportation services for businesses through the Port of Milwaukee, freight rail lines and numerous trucking companies.

Air travel is available through Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport (MKE), located approximately 15 miles southeast of Wauwatosa. Recognized as one of the country’s fastest-growing airports, General Mitchell provides non-stop air service to many major cities in the U.S. and other countries. In addition, Timmerman Airport is on the northern border of Wauwatosa, providing charter service to meet your business or personal needs.

Location ranks high on Wauwatosa’s list of assets. Whether it’s by ground, rail, air, car, bus or bike; traveling in, out and around Wauwatosa is a cinch.
