Welcome to Carlinville

Established in 1828, Carlinville has been dubbed one of the greatest small towns in America by author Norman Crampton. The growing community boasts a population of approximately 7,000 residents, all of whom enjoy the benefits of living in this particular location.

Carlinville sits in west central Illinois, and although it cherishes its small town environment, the community is easily accessible to the amenities of the larger cities nearby. Springfield is only 40 miles north of the area, while St. Louis is located 52 miles southwest.

Excellent education, top-notch healthcare and a variety of organizations dot the foundation of the Carlinville community, providing a superior quality of life for residents. The area is served by the Carlinville School District, offering education from early childhood development through high school. Two higher education facilities, Blackburn College and Lewis and Clark Community College, are located in the immediate area, with a number of public and private universities and colleges available throughout the region.

The Carlinville Area Hospital, along with several distinct practices ranging from family to chiropractic, provides high-quality healthcare to the communities in the region. A handful of houses of worship, serving a variety of denominations, and a host of diverse community organizations are also accessible in the area.

With an ideal location and above-caliber amenities, Carlinville has become an appealing area in which to reside. The community invites visitors from all over to see for themselves why this town has been recognized as one of the “100 Best Small Towns in America.”
