Rotery Club of Carol Stream

The Rotary Club of Carol Stream is proud to be a part of this community and works together with business professionals, community members and local officials to enhance our town. Our Club’s mission is “Business professionals having fun while serving the community locally and internationally.” We meet Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. at the Carol Stream Holiday Inn & Suites for lunch. Guests are welcome to learn more about us.

Since our formation in 1980, Club members have helped organize food, coat, bike, shoe and linen drives; awarded collegiate scholarships; sponsored high school students attending leadership conferences; sponsored local students to study abroad and international students to come here; donated over $400,000 to local nonprofits to meet human service needs; supported area elementary and high schools; encouraged literacy projects; and conducted environmental and recycling projects in the community. In addition to our local support, we have also helped with international projects in Mexico, Turkey, India, Africa, Peru and provided aid in the U.S. and internationally after natural disasters.

The Rotary Club conducts several fundraisers to raise the money for all of these projects. The primary effort is our annual golf outing, known as the “Chili Open.” 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the Chili Open, and the event will help our Club fund most of our efforts throughout 2012-13. Club members express their gratitude to the many businesses and people who have supported this effort and made it such a success each year.

The Rotary Club of Carol Stream is one of over 34,000 clubs around the world that make up Rotary International. Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self.” Rotary is a secular organization open to all persons regardless of race, color, creed, gender or political preference.

Since 1985, the most notable global project of Rotary International has been PolioPlus, an effort to eradicate polio from the face of the earth. Rotarians have raised over $200 million for this effort and volunteered thousands of hours, leading to the inoculation of over two billion children around the globe. In a partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Health Organization, we are down to the last three countries (Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan) where polio exists. When polio is wiped from the face of the earth, it will become only the second disease that mankind has eliminated. In addition to these efforts, Rotary also supports clean water efforts, humanitarian projects and the promotion of peace.
