Message from the Chairman

It has been my privilege to serve as the Chairman of the Greater Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors during this important and exciting period of transition.

This year, the Chamber announced new programs and activities designed to build and strengthen the Oak Brook and Oakbrook Terrace business communities. These activities emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to promote business interests, and the Chamber’s belief that service and advocacy on behalf of business will result in greater prosperity and opportunity for all citizens.

As the Chamber has moved forward with this work, it has been inspiring to see the development of important business and municipal partnerships. One example is the Chamber’s new Economic Development Committee, made up of Oak Brook and Oakbrook Terrace’s largest employers, area developers and municipal leaders. This committee is now moving forward with a business retention survey for Oak Brook and Oakbrook Terrace and the development of a new marketing plan to encourage new businesses to locate in these communities.

Business and municipal leaders also are working together through the Chamber’s new Government Affairs Committee to achieve funding to expand 22nd Street and plan for the development of future transportation initiatives. In addition, the Government Affairs Committee has developed and is advancing the Chamber’s first full legislative agenda. The agenda supports and promotes a competitive and fair tax climate; the use of market forces; medical malpractice reform; tax incentives for employers; and job creation and retention incentives for businesses. This agenda will guide us as we inform and unite businesses to promote these issues to area legislators and other public officials.

The Chamber also has brought together other important partners. The owners and managers of small and medium-size companies, through the Chamber’s new Leaders Exchange, meet monthly to discuss employer issues and concerns and receive regular business updates from municipal, county and state leaders. In addition, through the Chamber’s Sellers Exchange, 80 area sales professionals meet each month to discuss their companies and develop new business and professional relationships.
