graphic"I’m bored." It’s a phrase parents hate to hear, and in Rantoul it’s one they can avoid by utilizing the programs and facilities offered by the Rantoul Recreation Department and the Rantoul Park District.

The community’s recreation facilities include not only a series of scenic parks and playgrounds, but also a fitness center, a youth center, a lake and picnic area, an outdoor swimming pool, and two public golf courses.

The Rantoul Recreation Department provides fun, interesting programming for folks as young as five years old, including little league baseball, karate, cheerleading, and countless other sports. The Youth Center gives children a home base where they can play, learn, and compete.

Adults with an interest in fitness or athletic competition can participate in seasonal sports programs at many levels of competition including the option of co-rec divisions. The Forum Fitness Center includes basketball courts, racquetball courts, an aerobic room, and weight room, plus saunas and steam rooms. The Recreation Department’s main building includes classroom space for a variety of craft courses, as well as a ceramics shop and a woodworking shop.

Seniors enjoy a special drop-in center in the heart of town, and the Rec Department programming for them ranges from lifelong learning to culture and arts to just plain fun.

For more information on recreation programs, call the Rantoul Recreation Department at 893-0461.

Brookhill and Willow Pond golf courses offer league and tournament play throughout the season for competitive golfers, along with plenty of tee times for duffers, too.
