Frankfort and Godley

Founded in 1855 and incorporated in 1879, Frankfort’s rich heritage continues to be evident throughout the Village. From its historic downtown district to the Prairie-style architecture of many homes and commercial buildings, heritage and history have been carefully preserved. While the first pioneers were mostly of English and Scottish descent, German settlers made the Village of Frankfort a reality.

In 1855, the Joliet and Northern Indiana Railroad built a line through the present Village and named it “Frankfort Station.” After the Village was incorporated, the word “Station” was dropped from the name.

Today, Frankfort continues to thrive and has become known as the “Jewel of the South Suburbs.” Frankfort enjoys healthy economic growth in all areas — residential, commercial and industrial — and is identified as a premier community in Will County, the fastest growing county in Illinois and one of the fastest growing counties in the United States.

A quaint village of less than 600 people, Godley is located southwest of Braidwood. Godley was originally formed in 1888 as a mining town. Large families with large houses abound here, and nearly 40 percent of the population is under 18.
