Winnebago County Shopping

Shop ‘til you drop in Winnebago County, which has four shopping malls, a bustling East State Street “strip” of discount chains, off-price outlets and “big box” stores, along with the new Gateway District in Machesney Park.

Interesting specialty shops are scattered all over town, including boutique shops, home and garden, Swedish gifts and accessories and much more.

Antique and unique shops abound in many of our rural villages, and flea markets and antique shows are held throughout the year. Summer brings a number of farmer’s markets with fresh produce and flowers from area growers. Looking for that unusual or artist-inspired gift?

Try the museum shops at the Rockford Art Museum or Midway Village, or the new trendy Coronado Corner, next to the Coronado Theater.

Cherryvale Mall, located in Cherry Valley, is the region’s largest enclosed shopping center, attracting over eight million shoppers on an annual basis. The 780,000 square foot mall features 16 eateries and 134 stores anchored by Macy’s, Bergner’s, Sears and J.C. Penney.

Other great shops include Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor Loft, The Disney Store, Eddie Bauer, Chico’s, The Limited, Barnes and Noble, Lane Bryant and Gymboree. The mall also includes a multi-screen theater.

Another popular outdoor mall is Edgebrook, with its collection of unique boutique shops and great restaurants, catering to exquisite tastes of all kinds. From high fashion to dining al fresco, Edgebrook has it all. A new shopping Mecca has sprung up on Highway 173 in Machesney Park, now accessible from the I-90 tollway.

This area of big box stores and chain restaurants serves northern Winnebago County, as well as the region. Winnebago County is indeed the place to shop until you drop, drawing shoppers from a 70-mile radius to enjoy everything from motorcycles, furniture and handmade jewelry to computers.
