contentsWinnebao County IL Regional Planning & EDCads

A Historic Rivertown nestled at the confluence of the Rock and Pecatonica Rivers, Rockton was settled by the first permanent settler in Winnebago County, Stephen Mack.

Rockton is home to the largest stand of Greek Revival architecture in the state of Illinois. The majority of Old Rockton is a Historic District listed on the National Register. From the charming downtown center, beautiful neighborhoods radiate under a canopy of stately trees. Very close proximity to the river and several forest preserves offers abundant recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, golfing, swimming and exploration. Just to the west lies the 720-acre Nygren Wetland Preserve restoration and the Jensen Preserve. Additionally, a year round calendar of well-known festivals and events is found here.
