Welcome to Winnebago County

Winnebago County is nestled in the beautiful, rolling hills of Northern Illinois.

The western part of the county is rural with some of the richest farmland in the world.

We have a big city and smaller towns ... something for everyone. Economically, the county is strategically located in north central Illinois, bordering Wisconsin, and in close proximity to the city of Chicago and its suburbs in Illinois, as well as the cities of Madison and Milwaukee in Wisconsin. With a population of over 275,000, Winnebago is the 7th largest county in the state. The 520 square-mile area includes three cities, eight villages and 14 townships.

The county seat is Rockford, the third largest city in Illinois with a population of 152,000.

The economic vitality of the region is linked by proximity to central infrastructure, distribution hubs, major businesses and manufacturers, and surrounding agricultural community ties.
