Chamber of Commerce Letter

As the President of the Socorro County Chamber of Commerce, I would like to welcome you to Socorro County. Socorro County has been blessed with many attractions to visit. The most famous attraction is the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. Located about 20 miles southeast of Socorro, the refuge is the home of hundreds of species of wildlife. The recently constructed El Camino Real International Heritage Center, a New Mexico state monument, is near the refuge on Highway One. Other major attractions include: the Very Large Array, Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, Bureau of Land Management’s Quebradas Scenic Byway and Historic Fort Craig and the United States Park Service’s Salina Missions. A trip in the area would not be complete until you visited our university, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, which is listed as one of the nation’s best value undergraduate institutions in The Princeton Review. The university also has a golf course—given three of four stars by Golf Digest magazine.

The Socorro County Chamber of Commerce is organized to promote and coordinate the civic, commercial, residential, agricultural, industrial and cultural development of the City and County of Socorro, as well as promote tourism, in association with the city of Socorro and community organizations. The Chamber has a new objective in its mission to include economic development for the city. Economic development encompasses expansion of the two existing industrial parks in the city while supporting and enhancing existing business. Please contact our office for information on statistics, small business training, state tax incentives and commercial property availability.

The Chamber office is located on the City of Socorro’s historic plaza with a full-time staff to inform visitors about points of interest, community events and relocation information, as well as provide assistance for workshops and conventions. The Socorro County Chamber of Commerce is committed to supporting our current local residents and businesses, while welcoming new businesses and residents to our beautiful County.
