The Socorro Consolidated School District has been serving the educational needs of Socorro and the surrounding community for over 100 years. Throughout the years, the district has been dedicated to providing the best, most current educational advantage possible to the children of the community.

The 300-member staff of Socorro schools offers a comprehensive education for approximately 2,000 students. The district consists of EE Torres Pre-K program, Parkview and Zimmerly Elementary Schools, Sarracino Middle School, and Socorro High School in the city of Socorro; Midway Elementary in Lemitar, a few miles north of Socorro; and south of Socorro, San Antonio Elementary. Additionally, Cottonwood Elementary is a K-8 public charter school.

Academically, the educational program provides a rich, diverse and challenging curriculum to meet the varied needs of individual students. Scholarship is emphasized at every instructional level with a wealth of after-school and summer school programs designed to ensure that all students keep pace with educational expectations. Socorro High School students score well above the state averages on the ACT tests. The high school has received the ACT Academic Success Award. In addition to advanced and accelerated classes on campus, many Socorro High students take courses at New Mexico Tech through a wonderful partnership that also sees university faculty as guests in middle and high school classes. In addition, the Socorro schools and community have begun to forge a relationship that allows more and more students to see and engage in work and training in the community so each student has a sense of potential careers and the value of education.

Socorro schools provide opportunities for students to participate in several cultural programs including instrumental and vocal music, art, drama, and foreign language, including the only Chinese classes taught in a comprehensive public high school in New Mexico. Students compete and do well in state music, declamation, spelling, and Science Olympiad. A variety of opportunities are available for students in athletics including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, track, swimming, and golf.

Socorro Consolidated schools are steeped with tradition while being focused on preparing students for the future. Graduates of Socorro schools continue to make this community proud of their post-high school successes.
