Parks and Recreation

walking trail

By paddle or pedal, on foot or afloat, the Maumee River is the perfect backdrop for outdoor recreation and leisure. Whether your idea of fun is paddling in a kayak, biking along a dirt path or wading waist deep while walleye fishing during the annual Spring Run, the river corridor is a destination in itself.

Maumee is fortunate enough to have one of the Ohio’s best parks along the Maumee River. Side Cut Metropark is 560 acres, where you’ll find miles of groomed trails with wonderful river views. Every trail is different and filled with wildlife.

The park has plenty of picnic tables, grills, playgrounds, and open fields for the ideal family gathering. Covered picnic pavilions with fireplaces are available for the winter outdoor enthusiast. Deer are in abundance and easy to spot any time of day.

In spring, Side Cut is a destination for fishermen from around the country as walleye swim upriver to cast their eggs over the protective cobblestone below the rapids. The spawn is the largest of its kind on the Great Lakes.
