Recreation & City Services

The City of Plano Parks and Recreation Department currently oversees approximately 3,800 acres of parkland within more than 81 sites. Playground equipment, miles of paved and unpaved trails, more than 50 lighted tennis courts, picnic shelters, open green space, athletic fields and more are discovered through the department’s well-maintained park sites.

The range of programming available to residents of all ages, interests and skill levels is impressive, with -creative arts programs, adult sports leagues, youth sports, organizations, senior programs, therapeutic recreation, summer camps and preschool offerings all included. The various programs are coupled with modern amenities such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gymnasiums, exercise facilities, racquetball courts and much more at several multi-use recreational centers operated by the department. In addition to these vast opportunities for recreation are numerous facilities designed for various athletics, equestrian opportunities, dynamic fitness centers and a host of exceptional golf courses. For a listing of all recreation centers and facilities, visit the City of Plano’s website at www.plano.gov.

The community of Plano has five public libraries. All of the libraries have been named for outstanding citizens in the community, the first of which was the Gladys Harrington Library. “Friends of the Plano Library Book Sale,” which was established in 1965, holds an annual book sale every summer with more than 100,000 new and gently used books, DVDs and CDs priced at $2 or less. This highly anticipated and well-attended event is great for children and adults alike. For more information or locations of the libraries in Plano, please visit www.planolibrary.org
